At Sage, we believe mentoring matters and has the potential to transform the performance of any small and growing business.
Britain has always been a hotbed of innovation and entrepreneurial talent, but what's particularly exciting is that the appetite for starting a business is actually growing. In 2013, 526,446 businesses were registered with Companies House, a record number for new start-ups. But to turn these fledgling firms into profitable growing businesses for the long-term requires help and guidance.
Our research found 89% of small and medium sized businesses in the UK acknowledge that mentoring can help them to succeed. However, less than a quarter are currently making use of business mentors. We call this barrier the 'Mentoring Gap'.
We have launched Business Navigators, an initiative to encourage SMB mentoring and increase businesses' chances of success. By bringing together some of the finest minds in business mentoring, We aim to raise awareness of the importance of mentoring to business success and how to establish effective mentoring relationships.
Over the coming weeks and months we will be running a variety of initiatives in the UK that champion the value of mentoring and are designed to help business owners take advantage of it. To stay up to date on the latest developments and resources keep an eye on these pages and the Sage blog.
